Quick and easy way to make homemade fries (no potato peeling!) All you have to do is slice open a green plantain, remove the peel, and cut the plantain into whatever shape/size of fries you would like and fry (or bake). TOO EASY!

Since our trees are really producing plantains right now, I am finding as many ways as possible to use them. Stay connected for more upcoming recipes using this versatile tree goodness!

Everyone loves fries, but they are usually a gamble to eat at a restaurant or fast food joint.  Who knows from what they are made and most importantly in what they are fried (probably a polyunsaturated fatty acid-PUFA, which causes a whole array of issues in which you want to avoid). Researchers are discovering that the type of oil you consume, particularly PUFA may play the largest roll in your overall health and problems in which you experience. Studies are finding its detrimental effects are even worse than that of wheat and sugar. Therefore, be careful and always ask what type of oil is being used in your food,  and if there are no good substitutions available, ask if they can cook it in butter or without any oil at all.

Heat oil in a skillet and fry the plantains until brown. (You may need to flip depending on how much oil you use).

Remove from pan and sprinkle with salt (garlic, turmeric, pepper, and many other spices are also really good on these). Trying dipping them in homemade ketchup or homemade mayo!

*if you’d like to avoid the frying, you can also place the plantain slices in a clear bag with a dash of oil, and your spices. Shake to coat and place on a cooking sheet in the oven (or toaster oven) and bake till golden brown, around 350-400 degrees.
